Lubartów, August 2019
Not politically about a referendum
You don't go to politics for money, but a high diet as a measure of success? Lubartów is not the only city where councilors decided to ensure their financial comfort at the beginning of their term of office. No, we should not be glad that we are not the only ones. We sent applications with inquiries to several cities comparable to Lubartów.
We already know that in some the rate hike took place faster than in our country.
One of our readers wrote: “information about earnings, each of us can visit the site and see if it interests us. However, to see the work of a councilor, you have to look for and undermine and most of them will not do and, in my opinion, you have to start with this in order to start talking afterwards whether someone owes something or not. Because maybe one or the other is due to increase the diet. "
In accordance with our position and applicable law - we do not pay councilors, but only compensate for the limitations of professional activity. The discussion is about work, not pay. The thing is that, in accordance with the principle of social justice (or injustice according to some), raises for councilors are adopted in the same amount for all.
At the same time - perhaps not everyone is aware - the regulations say that for tax purposes, councilors are called "persons performing activities related to the performance of social and civic duties" and the tax is not charged to them up to PLN 3,000. monthly.
According to some, the diet is supposed to reflect prestige and responsibility. How do you value this prestige? How much is the respect in the local community, because for some it comes down to it.
On the one hand, emotionally - it is sad that the measure of respect for some is the size of their diet.
For some commentators, those who do not work or do not support themselves - should not be councilors at all.
On the other hand, the social outcry in Lubartów is right in our opinion. And it is not hysteria and propaganda. In recent years something has changed in this city and it shows. Perhaps it does not reach politicians who (regardless of age) believe in the traditional way of looking at voters, that is - we will talk in five years and then you have the right to judge me at the ballot box.
Unfortunately, or maybe - fortunately - our local society has developed. And even reads and remembers election promises. And in general - horror! - He wants and demands answers to questions asked publicly by councilors.
What's more - in a democracy as we understand it, it is such that if people gather in the required number, they have the right to ask about the most trivial matter, according to someone else. That's how it works.
That is why we consider the referendum to be a good solution, we support it and we will participate.
By the way ...
Really, it does not do well to redefine "civil society" by all means. Especially where it does not work, and this term is used by politicians, telling stories about how they build it, thanks to their actions. Let's not talk about the politicians of the Sejm and Senate, but those at the bottom who - more funnily - believe that they do not pursue any politics.
Do you know why we don't like prospective hawkers? Someone who is not interested in his self-government more closely than through media reports may not have any idea whether this person is telling the truth about the past situation. And there is no evidence of what the candidate has promised for the future.
Whatever he says, we shake hands with him that he didn't talk about increasing his diet at the beginning of his term. There was probably something about a mission and a vision.
Most of our councilors earn so much that the increase in diet does not really make a difference to them. Some, in turn, do not earn, and for them the diet is not a compensation for income, because they do not have any.
Where the basis for calculating the allowances are managerial salaries, the base amount has not changed in 2017, 2018 and 2019.
Instead of a summary
The facts are that the council candidates promised us different cuts. They informed us that the city's financial situation was bad or that it could be better. They promised us that they would consult us on important matters. Such a financially significant resolution is an important matter. Ignoring by the signatories of the draft resolution publicly asked questions asked both by the media and residents is reprehensible. And further - it does not match the election declarations.
And when a sufficient number of inhabitants gather - they have the right to express their opinion in a referendum. And this right - so far - no councilor can take away them.
Naked, no emotions
Authentic fact no.1:
The draft of the resolution appeared, as we wrote for some councilors, the increase in the diet is as "needed by the hare the bell".
Authentic fact no.2:
The sessions are in the afternoon, so nobody takes time off unless they are working on the 2nd shift. If (apart from committee meetings) the councilor devotes time to hmmm ... to prepare for the session or meeting with the residents, then this is not visible, and apart from the Chairman of the Council, none of the councilors is on duty. And contrary to election promises - he does not report on his activities.
Here we return to the quiet of the home where the candidates - peddlers dream their visions.
What does the resolution-making activity of councilors look like?
Oh yes:
We asked how much the councilors from Lubartów had received so far. We got a reply.
